KUBATON
The Kubotan (sometimes spelled Kubaton) or self-defense key chain is a highly
accessible, durable, and effective self-defense tool. It is usually less than 8" long and
slightly thicker than a marker pen. Typically attached to a key ring for convenience and
concealment, the Kubotan appears to be an innocuous key fob to the untrained eye.
Common uses include stabilizing the fist for punching, applying pressure to sensitive parts
of an assailant's body, or gaining leverage on an assailant's wrist or fingers. The end of the
Kubotan may also be used for jabbing, or by gripping it by the key-ring it may be swung or
flicked with some precision.
The principal targets for use in self-defense are boney parts, such as knuckles, forearms,
bridge of the nose, or shins. In addition to this, it is a very effective pressure point tool; it
can attack any point a finger can, with much greater effectiveness. Its techniques are
greatly linked to 'empty handed' martial arts techniques, and almost all of its uses derive
from the fighting style in which it is included. It is one of the few tools that adapts to an
art, rather than having its own set of movements and uses.
Since many cities and municipalities within the State of Illinois have made the use of mace
illegal, there is little else a woman can do to defend herself against an attacker. In areas
where mace is legal to carry, the use of mace can be more detrimental to the user than the
attacker. It is possible for the wind to blow the mace back into the face of the user, or the
mace is so old that it has lost its’ charge.

One on One Range Training
|
From time to time, individuals need assistance to "tune-up" their scores, other times individuals would like to try our a firearm
before they purchase it. To this end, we offer RANGE ONLY instruction. This service helps the seasoned shooter correct a bad
habit and get them back on target. For the new shooter, you will be shown how to properly use the range, load the firearm, hold
the firearm, shoot the firearm, and very BASIC safety. It is recommended that this course is not to be used as a substitute for a
complete Basic Firearms Course.
The student is responsible for providing their own firearm, either owning it or renting it from the range. The students are also
responsible for all range fees and ammunition.
ALL instruction is held at Maxon Shooter Supplies located at 1226 Rand Road in Des Plaines.
Fee for this training is $60 per student per hour.

fee and the cost of ammunition. All shooting is done at Maxon Shooting Sports located at 1226 Rand Road in Des Plaines.
Our class schedule is based upon the requests for disciplines, pistol, rifle, or shotgun, by our students. While the majority
of the requests are for pistol classes, we do our best to accommodate all disciplines.
Holstering and Reloading Class
|
If you feel that BARNEY FIFE has taught you EVERYTHING you need to know about holstering and loading your firearm there
is no need for you to waste your money on this class. As I am sure you are aware, there is more to holstering your firearm
than just sliding it into your holster and there is more to reloading your firearm than just slamming a magazine into the
magazine well. We are offering a 2.5 hour class that will cover the following;
- Proper holstering techniques
- Proper loading and reloading techniques
- Clearing a jam in a tactical situation
- Emergency loading procedures
- How couples should prepare for disaster situations
What do you need to bring;
- A GOOD QUALITY strong side holster. (A nylon Uncle Mike's holster is inexpensive but not reliable)
- A magazine pouch that holds 2 magazines
- Three empty magazines
- A strong, (good quality), belt
- Preferably your husband, wife, significant other, to work with
THERE WILL BE NO LIVE AMMUNITION PERMITTED IN CLASS, NO EXCEPTIONS!
This is a classroom only session but you will be shown MANY techniques that you will be able to practice so when the weather
changes you will be ready for outdoor classes.
If you are looking for a HIGH quality holster, check our ENDORSEMENTS section and click on M2Tactical. Say hello to Mark
from us if you buy from him.
Cost is $50 per person and class size will be limited to 10 students per class. Please see the schedule above for class dates.
